Man dies after suffering trauma from repeated wave hits at Cancun beach

Cancun, Q.R. — A 39-year-old American tourist has died from injuries sustained after several waves threw him against the sand at a Cancun beach. According to his partner, they had arrived at their hotel in the Cancun Hotel Zone Thursday.

Both decided to walk the beach where the man walked into the sea, but was caught off guard by strong waves that tossed him into the sea then threw him into the sand. Complaining of a back ache, his girlfriend pulled him from the water where a lifeguard called an ambulance.

According to reports, he was transferred to a private clinic but later transferred to a public hospital after his girlfriend was allegedly presented with a potentially large medical bill. It was at the public Cancun hospital that the man died from his injuries.

The deceased, 39-year-old Matthieu B and his girlfriend, had arrived from Massachusetts Thursday. The man died around 11:00 a.m Friday morning in a Cancun hospital from trauma suffered. Agents of the State Attorney General’s Office were notified of the death. An autopsy is planned to determine the exact cause of death.
