Man arrested in murder of ex-Colima governor

Ixtlahuacan, Colima — A man has been arrested for the murder of Jesus Silverio Cavazos, the ex-governor of Colima.

According to the General Attorney, Gerardo Mendoza Chávez, who goes by the alias of Gerardón, has been identified and arrested for the murder of Jesús Silverio Cavazos Ceballos, former governor of Colima.

Alberto Elías Beltrán of the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), said that as a result an operation, the whereabouts of the alleged murderer was found in the vicinity of the racho El Guamuchil in Ixtlahuacan, Colima.

It is reported that Mendoza Chávez is also linked to the drug trafficking of synthetic drugs, marijuana and cocaine by the Michoacán Family.

“Investigations show the probable participation of Gerardo N as leader of a criminal organization with presence in that state and the presumed conformation of armed groups in Michoacán with operations in Coalcomán, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Aguililla,” the PGR announced.

Gerardo Mendoza Chávez was arrested in the municipality of Ixtlahuacán, Colima by the elements of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the PGR in coordination with the Federal Police and the Navy.
