Man arrested in Cancun for illegal possession of spider monkey

Cancun, Q.R. — A man has been arrested in Cancun after he was found in illegal possession of a spider monkey.

As part of Operation Titan, members of the federal police arrested a 27-year-old man identified as Julián N., who was walking with a spider monkey. Julián N was seen by police along Avenue 119 with Francisco I Madero of Supermanzana 100 in Cancun when police were performing routine crime surveillance.

The man, originally from Yucatan, was without any prior criminal convictions. He was detained and presented before the prosecutor’s office for crimes against biodiversity, since he was found in possession of a protected wildlife species.

His fate will be determined by the Agent of the Public Ministry of the Federal Jurisdiction.
