Man arrested in Cancun after found walking with assault rifles in broad daylight

Cancun, Q.R. — UPDATED: After hearing shots being fired, police raced to the area where they arrested a man they found carrying two assault rifles in broad daylight.

The man was taken into custody after he allegedly claimed he wanted to kill a woman. The man, who has not been identified, was searched and arrested when police found him carrying two weapons, an AR-15 and AK-47 with cartridges.

The shots were heard behind the TransfiguraciĂ³n de Nuestro Señor chapel ion PĂ¡galo Avenue in Cancun.

Police taped off the area where, after a search, they reported finding several bullet casings.

UPDATE: In a public statement, State Attorney General Ă“scar Montes de Oca and State Public Safety Secretary JesĂºs Alberto Capella Ibarra revealed that the arrested man, 32-year-old Pedro N, is part of a cartel.

“Yesterday, a complaint was received by 911 in which firearms were reported in Region 153 on PĂ¡galo Street in the municipality of Benito JuĂ¡rez. Police moved in and it was on PinzĂ³n Street where they located a subject that persecuted three women.

“They detained Pedro N who was secured with two long weapons. He has a rape complaint and alleged links with the Jalisco Nueva GeneraciĂ³n Cartel,” they explained.
