Male believed responsible for Cancun mototaxi shooting dies after shootout with National Guard

Cancun, Q.R. — A male believed responsible for the death of at least one Cancun mototaxi driver has died. The unidentified male was killed after a confrontation with the National Guard.

On Thursday night, the man died in hospital after being shot in the abdomen while exchanging gun fire with authorities. The now deceased was with a second male aboard a motorcycle and was being pursued by the National Guard after allegedly shooting a mototaxi driver Thursday night.

The second mototaxi driver shooting in as many days took place around 10:00 p.m. Thursday in the La Joya subdivision. The pair believed responsible were followed for several kilometers to Copa Nueva where shots were exchanged.

One of the young men managed to escape, while the second was shot. He was taken to hospital around 10:30 p.m. but died shortly after arriving.

This latest shooting was the second murder of a Cancun city mototaxi driver in as many days. On Thursday night, a driver was shot and killed in the La Joya subdivision in region 254. The night before, a mototaxi driver was shot and killed in the Paseos Lakin subdivision of Cancun while inside his unit.
