Tulum, Q.R. – As tourist occupancy rates continue to increase for the once-sleepy-fishing-village of Tulum, luxury hotels are moving in.
Coordinator of Confederación Revolucionaria de Obreros y Campesinos (CROC) in Tulum, Claudio Mendez Cortes, says that the Bahia Principe resort is expanding and to date, has 160 rooms under construction.
He explained that in addition to Punta Jade, there will be an all-inclusive hotel for the affluent sector, bringing the resort total to 3,500 rooms.
“Currently this resort is operating four hotels totaling 3,045 rooms. We are working on building 160 rooms at the Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal.” He added that these types of luxury amenities will provide an added bonus for Tulum by having better facilities and higher quality of services.
The extension of Bahia Principe Akumal and the hotel Bahia Principe Punta Jade, are located one kilometer north of the resort. The next opening of Secrets Akumal, which will have more than 300 rooms, is estimated to generate between 400 to 500 direct jobs and about 200 new indirect jobs in tourism.
CROC maintains collective contracts with the hotel brand, which is based in the Riviera Maya.
