Lifeguards increased as Cancun beaches fill for summer vacation

Cancun, Q.R. — Summer vacation has begun as beaches of Cancun fill during the first weekend of the vacation season. With the additional visitors, authorities have reinforced the number of lifeguards along its beaches.

Antonio Riveroll Ribbon, director of Civil Protection of the municipality of Benito Juárez, explained that 10 extra lifeguards have been added to protect swimmers along Cancun beaches, adding that the local government has 35.

He explained that 30 of them are from the municipal Civil Protection Directorate and five from the local Fire Department, who were previously trained for rescue work at sea.

The distribution of lifeguards is in accordance with the influx at each beach with Playas Delfines, Marlin and El Niña among those that require more aid personnel since they receive a greater number of visitors.
