Leaving pets in hot vehicles a crime in Benito Juarez

Cancun, Q.R. — Leaving a pet inside a hot car is an offense in the municipality of Benito Juarez.

Under the Municipal Department of Public Safety and Traffic, offenders can be fined up to 2,500 peso for leaving animals locked inside hot vehicles.

Civil associations who are dedicated to protecting animals want the public to be aware that the law exists and that they can report such incidents.

According to the Department of Public Safety for Benito Juarez, only two fines have been applied to motorists this year for leaving pets unattended in locked hot cars. Both cases were found by traffic police patrolling mall parking lots.

The department urges people to make the anonymous complaint through emergency number 066 if they find a pet unattended inside a hot vehicle.
