Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Laura Beristain Navarrete celebrates as the new mayor of Playa del Carmen.
Laura Beristain, candidate of the partial coalition Juntos Haremos Historia, celebrated her triumph in the 2018 local election accompanied by fellow candidatesAdriana Teissier and Marybel Villegas Canché.
The trio say they are committed to working together for the municipality of Solidaridad.
Beristain Navarrete stressed that during the historic election, the desire of the people anxious for real change was obvious.
“We won and I’m not going to fail. Now it’s up to us all to do our part to build the municipality that we all want,” she said.
She invited the candidates to join her government where she indicated that she will work for the people who elected her and thanked them for having elected her as municipal president of Solidaridad.
According to the Electoral Institute pre-count, Laura Beristain Navarrete was the most voted for candidate with 33,963 counted votes. She will replace the previous president of Solidaridad, Christina Torres, who ran for re-election this year who received approximately 2,000 votes less than Beristain.
On July 8, the Electoral Institute of Quintana Roo will release the final count.
