Chetumal, Q.R. – At least three forest fires remain out of control in the southern part of the state of Quintana Roo.
Authorities of the National Forestry Commission are under pressure as two large fires continue to burn in the area of Ribera del Rio Hondo, a forested area between the Mexico and Belize borders. So far, approximately 160 hectares has been destroyed by the out of control flames.
Another forest fire began Wednesday near the seaside tourist town of Mahahual, consuming at least 300 hectares so far. Civil Protection says that the region continues to burn, although they are working on controlling the flames.
