Cancun, Q.R. — The large La Gran Rueda observation wheel has been set up in the Cancun Hotel Zone and will open in time for spring break.
The Gran Rueda Cancún in the hotel zone is not a project of the Municipality of Benito Juárez, it has been clarified. The project belongs to developer Dutch Wheel International, a Danish company that has installed similar observation wheels in different cities around the world.
The company has applied for and obtained the permits needed to be able to set up the wheel as a tourist attraction in the Cancun Hotel Zone. The city of Cancun, however, does receive a space leasing fee and a percentage of tickets sold, a concept that helps generate money in unused spaces.
La Gran Rueda Cancún was approved so the municipality could expand the attractions for both residents and visitors to the city. It adds to the already existing area attractions, offering visitors spectacular views of the hotel zone, waterways and complete surrounding area.
The observation wheel will be open for operation in time for the upcoming Cancun Spring Break holiday season.
The wheel has been installed in other tourist cities including Vienna, Austria, Tianjin, China, London, Great Britain, Singapore and Las Vegas.
