Judge orders seizure of properties after ex-state officials linked to 743 million missing peso

Chetumal, Q.R. — The former director general and administrative director of the state’s Social Communication System have been connected to the accusations of irregular performance of the public function for the mismanagement of 743 million peso.

Both Jorge Acevedo Marín and his administrative director, Gerardo Vázquez Handall were found connected to the accusations by a judge in a Chetumal courtroom. The two were once part of the Sistema Quintanarroense de Comunicación Social (SQCS) during the five-year governor term of Roberto Borge Angulo.

According to la Fiscalía Especializada en Combate a la Corrupción (FECC), between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2016, they authorized 84 direct contracts with 37 companies that provided services and products, which turned out to be ghosts. Only four of these companies were registered in the Suppliers Register. The ghosts considered part of “The Master Scam” through which resources were diverted from the Ministry of Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), whose former head Rosario Robles, remains behind bars.

The FECC also reported that along with connecting the duo to the charges, they guaranteed the repair of the damage with the seizure of property in which the judge considered pertinent. They report that with regard to Jorge N, the seizure of four properties located in the municipality of Benito Juárez was ordered, as well as eight cars and a motorcycle.

As for Gerardo N, the criminal authority decreed the embargo of seven properties located in the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Othón P. Blanco, as well as one located in the city of Mérida in the State of Yucatán. Three vehicles were also seized in Quintana Roo and a luxury car with license plates from the State of Yucatan.
