Isla Mujeres police officer shot, killed in Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — A senior Isla Mujeres police officer was shot and killed Wednesday while outside a private home. The targeted hit took place in SM 41 of Cancun. Police scoured the area for those responsible, however, arrests have not been announced.

Since the shooting, Isla Mujeres mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis condemned this murder, which he described as a “vile attack.”

“We hope from the State Prosecutor’s Office justice and a prompt, clear and conclusive investigation that determines and clarifies the events,” he posted on social media adding that “the City Council offers all the support to the prosecution to get to the truth and find those responsible for this heinous crime.”

Carrillo Soberanis also said that they “will not speculate on the facts, but will wait for the prosecution’s investigations.”

The State Attorney General’s Office indicated that it had already opened an investigation for the murder of the now deceased officer, identified as Pedro Abirán Fuentes Cruz.
