Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A boat that caught fire over the weekend was reduced to ashes in the Bay of Isla Mujeres.
The burning boat Kiva was reported to authorities Sunday around 11:20 a.m. which triggered elements of Armada de México and personnel from Protección Civil to the scene. According to preliminary reports, boat personnel requested the intervention of authorities to control the flames to prevent nearby vessels from also catching fire.
Authorities arrived and pumped water for more than an hour. They were able to extinguish the fire, but not before the boat was completely gutted.
Police investigations have not yet revealed the cause of the fire. There were no reports of human injuries, only the material loss of the vessel.
