Inflatable water slides at Mamitas deemed illegal, unsafe

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – Inflatable slides at Mamitas Beach in Playa del Carmen’s centro have been deemed illegal and unsafe.

Numerous complaints from water and tourism operators about the floating game area was brought to the attention of the Port of Solidarity. Officials were sent to inspect the set up which is when they found numerous irregularities.

The company, Estructuras Inflables Marinas S.A de C.V (Inflatable Structures Marinas SA de CV), was not authorized by Dirección de Marina Mercante. David Antonio Galeana, port captain in command, explains that the structure was illegal and posed a huge risk to the public.

Aside from being set up illegally, “Inspectors also detected between 35 and 40 underwater fixated artifacts that put swimmers at risk because in this area of swimmers, no service provider is given permission to anchor any mooring device within 30 meters of the beach.  This is not a mooring area and mooring is not authorized.”

Officials have given legal notice to the inflatable slide company to withdraw the five structures and all mooring bases within a period of 15 days.
