Cancun, Q.R. — Elements of the National Guard have seized more than 100 containers being used for fuel theft. The seizure of the containers was made from a private home along Avenida Centenario after a citizen called in the anonymous report.
Authorities were tipped off to the two huachicoleros (people dedicated to the theft and illicit sale of fuel) by a citizen who saw and recognized the use of the containers of fuel. When police arrived, two men were on site, however, both fled on a motorcycle.
Authorities combed through the property, locating 14 filled containers. Elements of the National Guard were able to confirm the clandestine sale of fuel from the home. In addition to the containers and fuel, an empty cistern was found, which they believe was used to store stolen fuel before being filled into the containers and made for sale.
