Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — An illegal hotel project on Isla Mujeres has been shut down by government officials after receiving complaints.
The Urban Development Directorate of Isla Mujeres says they have placed closed seals on a wooden fence that has been erected in a concessioned beach area granted to the Hotel Privilege Aluxes.
Kerem Pinto Aguilar, director of Zofemat said that through the direction of Urban Development, they proceeded to place closure seals along the fence, since there are no such permits. The hotel has also been cited for delimiting federal maritime and land area.
He the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone law states that concessioned areas cannot be delimited and thereby prohibit the free transit of people.
According to neighbors, the work started very early in the morning with the intention of extending the construction until it closed the public beach.
