Hotel Association confirms Cancun, Riviera Maya beaches open only to tourists

Cancun, Q.R. — The Cancun and Puerto Morelos Hotel Association confirmed that during this stage, only tourists can enjoy beach areas. Hotel Association head Roberto Cintrón Gómez, explained that since Cancun hotels can control the capacity of visitors to beaches outside their establishments, hotel visitors are permitted on beaches.

Cintrón Gómez says the restriction was applied to the public in order to prevent people from meeting on beaches and not respecting healthy distances, which would generate a greater number of Covid cases, however in the case of tourists, entry can be controlled.

“We have fought so that visitors can access the beaches with certain restrictions, such as avoiding groups of more than 10 people, which is working,” he said adding that the most effective measure now is having only hotel beach fronts working to control visitor access and not expose anyone.

According to the State Epidemiological Semaphore, public beaches will not reopen until the region generates a yellow light. The state of Quintana Roo continues with an orange epidemiological light, which means a majority of businesses are open (public parks, beaches and gyms excluded) and operate at a 30 percent capacity.
