Riviera Maya, Q.R. — An accident that has been blamed on speeding resulted in one dead and five injured along the federal Tulum-Playa Felipe highway.
The accident occurred along the federal 307 about six kilometers south of Tulum when two cars met head on. The driver of the speeding vehicle died at the scene. Five others involved in the accident were rushed to hospital, all with serious injuries.
Reports by police authorities say the accident was recorded just after midnight on the federal highway Tulum-Felipe Carrillo Puerto at the height of the Cenote Cristal. Preliminary information said one of the cars was speeding when the driver lost control and crashed head on into another vehicle. The 25-year-old driver of the speeding vehicle was pronounced at the scene.
Federal Police, Municipal Public Safety Coordination, Civil Protection and the Fire Department arrived to provide first aid services. All the injured were transferred to the Costamed Hospital for medical attention.
The name of the deceased was not released.
