Holbox, Q.R. — A company has requested building permission to develop apartments on the island of Holbox.
Holbox Exotik Apartments SA de CV has submitted its request to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) their Environmental Impact Statement (MIA) of its Holbox Sunset project.
If approved, the apartment complex would consist of a group of two properties with a surface area of 872 square meters. The site where the project is to be developed is located on the corner between Calle Caguama and Calle Pez Vela in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas.
Holbox Exotik Apartments is requesting permission to build 24 apartments over three levels with a common rooftop pool area, palapas for private use and roof-top terraces as well as a garden-hammock area, administrative area, laundry room, waste storage and general services area.
Holbox Exotik Apartments is said to have an investment value of 25 million peso.
In December, municipal authorities reported more than 50 new projects were awaiting approval for the island of Holbox in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas with the municipal president saying the island was not ready due to lack of stable infrastructure.
In April, an announcement came that approximately 22 kilometers of protected natural area has been earmarked for tourism development projects on Holbox in the region of Yum Balam.
