Highway accident near Tulum claims three lives

Tulum, Q.R. — An accident between a private car and a taxi Sunday has left three people dead. The accident occurred along the highway near Bahía Príncipe.

At around 9:00 a.m., emergency personnel were called to the scene of an accident involving two vehicles. When they arrived, they found a collision between a Lázaro Cárdenas del Río union taxi from Playa del Carmen and a private car, resulting in the car rolling over.

Preliminary reports say that the private vehicle was traveling at excessive speed. The car managed to make contact with the taxi, which is when the driver lost control of the car.

The impact caused the private car to roll, throwing one of its passengers out onto the highway. All three inside the private vehicle were killed.

Two lanes between Tulum and Playa del Carmen were closed while the State Attorney General’s Office removed the bodies. Traffic was backed up more than a kilometer.
