Cancun, Q.R. — State Governor Carlos Joaquín says that more work will be done to ensure the benefits of tourism reaches every corner of the state, not just the tourist corridor.
He explained that, “Quintana Roo is a leader in tourism, but we need that leadership to be accompanied by a better quality of life for all. Better development to reduce inequalities between north and south where they suffer from poverty.
“We can not linger. We have grown a lot thanks to direct foreign investment, mainly in the hotel industry, but we need that economic benefit to reach all corners of the state,” he added.
Carlos Joaquín agrees that Solidaridad, Riviera Maya, is the heart of the Mexican Caribbean with a population of almost 300,000. It is the tourist corridor with the highest per capita index in Mexico.
“We represent almost 10 percent of the hotels offered in the country with more than 45,000 rooms. It is the tourist corridor with first place in hotel infrastructure in Mexico, with the highest number of lodging establishments of 5-star categories and Gran Turismo,” he explained.
He also stressed that it is the generator of 30 percent of the economic benefits that Mexico receives from tourism. The product of first class services such as restaurants, bars, nightclubs, car rentals, golf courses, archaeological zones, theme parks and spas he says, “Together we can make tourism generate more and better opportunities for more families and not just for a few.”
Carlos Joaquín pointed out that businesses related to the tourism industry have become the main engine of the growth and development of the Quintana Roo economy. This year, the region of Costa Maya was included in the state’s tourism promotion to help generate economic benefits for the south.
