Health officials report over 70 million vaccines in Mexico

Mexico City, Mexico — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico reported through a statement that, to date, the country has received or packaged more than 60 million doses of vaccines against covid-19 since start of the pandemic and estimated an excess of 70 million before the end of the month.

The secretariat presented the update on the vaccine supply strategy against covid-19, highlighting the increase in the number of doses that have been packaged in the Drugmex plants in Querétaro and at Laboratorios Liomont in Ocoyoacac, State of Mexico.

Likewise, the secretariat announced that the parastatal company Birmex has already started the first tests of the packaging of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V, which will increase the supply of vaccines in the country.

The secretariat stressed that of the total doses that will be added to the National Vaccination Plan during the month of July, about half will be packaged in Mexico: nine million of the AstraZeneca vaccine and one million of CanSino. This, in parallel with the arrival of the Sinovac and Pfizer vaccines.

The secretariat also reported that agreements were reached with Italy to deepen collaboration with the Lazzaro Spallanzani Institute in order to bring to Mexico phase III of the development of the GRAd-CoV2 vaccine, which will be produced by the biomedical company ReiThera.

The agency also said that Mexican health authorities will evaluate phase III project of the French laboratory Sanofi Pasteur. Previously, the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, had met with Sanofi executives to evaluate investment projects and vaccine production of this laboratory in Mexico.
