Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources has approved the construction of a new hotel project for Playa del Carmen that was announced in August.
Authorization for the construction of the Garza Blanca Resort & Spa Riviera Maya project has been approved by the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources. The approval for the hotel was published in the Ecological Gazette, noting that company Promotora Arena SA de CV, will construct the hotel in the vicinity of Playa Xcalacoco in north Playa del Carmen.
Once complete, the hotel will offer 150 hotel rooms with an investment of approximately $66 million USD and create 700 employment opportunities.
The company has been trying to obtain building approval since 2015. Now that they are approved, the complete project will be a combination of both hotel rooms and residential suites divided into two buildings. One building will offer sea views, while the other will offer jungle views.
