Cancun, Q.R. — An off-duty member of Cancun’s Ministerial Police unit was shot Thursday night after attempting to intercept criminals after what amounted to four murders in one night in Cancun.
Four people were killed in a span of less than two hours in Cancun Thursday with the first shooting occurring around 7:50 p.m. in the colony of La Jungla in region 200 of the city.
Preliminary reports say that armed individuals shot and killed two people on a motorcycle in La Jungla. They were found deceased one block away from the original place of the shooting.
At 9:30 p.m., another man was shot and killed at a taco stand on Comalcalco Avenue in Region 95 of Cancun. Witnesses reported seeing a subject point a gun at the head of one of the diners. He was found deceased by police still sitting in his chair.
A report at 9:50 p.m. was for gunfire in the private area of Chucum Street in the Prado Norte subdivision in Region 256. According to preliminary information, an off-duty policeman came to the aid of a security guard for the private residential area.
Both the policeman and security guard were shot and rushed to the General Hospital, however, the security guard later died from his injuries.
There is no report if the three shootings were related. Police continue to investigate.
