Four killed when fuel tanker collides with semi

Paraiso, Tabasco — The explosion of a fuel truck in the state of Tabasco left four dead, reported the state’s governor Adán Augusto López. “Unfortunately, the driver of the truck, the driver of another vehicle and 2 people who were in the area died,” the governor posted on social media.

“Accident of a tank with fuel in the La Raya ranch, Comalcalco-Paraíso highway, the tank exploded, the fire is under control. Unfortunately, the driver of the truck, the driver of another vehicle and 2 people who were at the scene died. Civil Protection supporting,” he posted.

State of Tabasco Civil Protection arrived at the scene of the 9:30 a.m. explosion along with numerous firemen who began the task of controlling the extensive fire. According to preliminary reports, the explosion occurred after the fuel truck collided with a semi trailer on a sharp corner. The accident also involved a private compact car being crushed by the trailer.

In addition to the deaths, a nearby home was destroyed by the intense heat from the fire generated by the burning fuel truck. Flames were visible for several kilometers while firemen worked to extinguish the burning fuel tanks.
