Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Four people were left injured after a chain reaction of vehicles along the Playa del Carmen highway when a van tried to avoid a cyclist.
The accident was recorded in front of the Barceló hotel along the federal highway. Early reports say that a van stopped abruptly to avoid hitting a cyclist. Upon hitting the breaks, the van was then hit by a car.
The impact from the collision sent the van across the highway lanes and into a palm tree. Three passengers inside the van were injured.
Although the car sustained the most damage, none of its passengers were injured. The cyclist, who was also hit, was reported in serious condition.
Police were on scene. Private ambulances transferred the wounded to the General Hospital.
