Four Cancun men found guilty of kidnapping

Cancun, Q.R. — Four men have been found guilty on kidnapping charges by the State Attorney General’s Office and will be sentenced.

The four men were presented before a judge by the Prosecutors of the Public Ministry, which is part of the Special Prosecutor’s Office in Investigation of Kidnappings in Quintana Roo.

The four men have been identified as Santiago JE, José JEP, José IET and Juan AEL for the crime of aggravated kidnapping.

The charges come after a 2017 incident in which a man was kidnapped and held for ransom. In May of last year, the four men deprived the victim of liberty using firearms, threatened the man’s family and demanded 8 million peso for his safe release.

As a result of intelligence work carried out by the Ministerial Police, the victim, who was a business owner, was released the next day without harm and the four men arrested.

The four, who have been found guilty of the crime of kidnapping, are scheduled for sentencing April 2 where they could receive terms of between 50 to 90 years in prison.
