Chicxulub Puerto, Yucatan — Four people have been arrested for the murder of a man in Chicxulub Puerto, a town about 24 kms due west of Merida.

A search operation implemented by the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) resulted in the quick capture of four individuals involved in the firearm murder of a person in a restaurant in Chicxulub Puerto. Once the shooting was reported, police activated protocols in the center of the state and border areas.

In a press release, police say the four alleged criminals were arrested at a control stop along the Mérida-Valladolid highway at the height of the Teya ranch hours after the murder.

The individuals were positively identified by people who witnessed the shooting. The subjects, three men and one woman, were traveling in a Nissan truck with license plates from Mexico City. Two firearms were found in the vehicle.

The wife of the deceased man said she and her husband, who were originally from Quintana Roo, had relocated to the state of Yucatan only five months before.

Police added that the alleged criminals originate from Veracruz and Quintana Roo.
