Four arrested in Cancun after police use GPS on stolen phone

Cancun, Q.R. — Four men have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a grocery store robbery in Cancun.

The four men, two of which are taxi drivers, were arrested by Cancun municipal police after they were identified for committing a robbery in SM 224. Police were able to quickly track down the four men using the GPS system of a cell phone one of them stole from the store owner.

The owner of the store reported the robbery, saying that three of the men entered the store with guns, demanding cash and his iPhone.

After finding their location with the iPhone GPS, police intercepted the two get-away vehicles, which were two taxis, and arrested those inside. The alleged store robbers have been identified as Julio Cesar N 33, Juan Gabriel N 45, 40-year-old José del Carmen N and Rigoberto N, 31.

The four were taken into custody and handed over to the public ministry for the crimes of theft and carrying firearms after police also seized three guns.
