Mexico City, Mexico — The former Secretary of Health of Veracruz, Juan Antonio Nemi Dib, was arrested over the weekend while on his way Puebla. The former secretary is accused of breach of a legal duty, embezzlement and abuse of authority under the governorship of ex-Veracruz governor Javier Duarte.
The former Duarte official was arrested by the Puebla State Agency in coordination with elements of the Attorney General of the State of Veracruz.
His detainment was made due to an arrest warrant issued by a judge in July, which was derived from an investigation by the state prosecutor for alleged crimes of non-compliance with a legal duty, embezzlement and abuse of authority.
Nemi Dib was found with irregularities in the construction of the Pediatric Tower of Boca del Río for 30 million peso. Juan Antonio Nemi Dib was in charge of the Ministry of Health from 2012 to 2014 under the PRI government.
He was also director of the State System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) and executive secretary of the State Public Security System. After his arrest, the State Investigation Agency of Puebla secured procedures for his transfer before the judge n the state of Veracruz.
The ex-governor of Veracruz, Javier Duarte, was extradited from Guatemala to Mexico City in July where he was being held.
