Former Puerto Morelos mayor announces she is running for governor

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The Chamber of Deputies have approved the license request made by Laura Fernández Piña to run for governor. Deputy Fernández Piña of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), is now registered as a candidate for the governorship of Quintana Roo.

The request was part of the Friday agenda which was read by the legislator of the National Action Party (PAN), Santiago Creel Miranda, and then put to a vote.

On her person social network, Laura Fernández posted “today the plenary approved my request to separate me from my functions as a legislator starting Sunday. Many thanks to my colleagues and fellow deputies for their support. I am ready for the biggest challenge of my professional life.”

Laura Fernández Piña was the mayor of Puerto Morelos from 2016 to 2021. She headed the municipality for two consecutive terms after being reelected in 2018.

On Thursday, Cancun mayor Mara Lezama also announced her intention to fill the upcoming Governor of Quintana Roo seat.
