Former longtime policeman arrested for murder in Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — An altercation between two men in front of a Cancun supermarket has resulted in the death of one and the arrest of another who is reported to be a former police officer.

The incident arose Monday night when an apparent altercation between the two occurred in front of a mini-market on Bonampak Avenue in Supermanzana 3 of central Cancun. The altercation took place around 9:10 p.m. in front of a Go-Mart when one of the two men involved in the altercation got in his SUV to leave the scene.

He was followed by the second man in a Jeep Cherokee with whom he had the altercation. The jeep followed the SUV to Róbalo Street where the driver caught up with him and shot him several times while in his vehicle.

State Police arrived on scene and arrested the man alleged responsible for the death of the SUV driver.

According to a press release, the arrested man was a municipal policeman with the federal security agency Grupo Maya, from 2006 until 2015. When arrested, he was found carrying a firearm.
