Five suspects detained in Cancun for alleged involvement in the kidnapping and murder of Yucatan man

Cancun, Q.R. — Three men and two women have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping and subsequent death of a Yucatan businessman. On April 21, Yucatan local Jaime Chay Pérez was reported missing.

The man, who was involved in real estate in Tizimin, disappeared. The only trace of him police found was his abandoned car parked along the side of a highway. Relatives notified police that a ransom of 10 million peso had been repeatedly requested for his release.

A day later, an area resident reported finding the body of a deceased man in the Vista Real subdivision of Cancun. When police responded to the call, they discovered the body of the businessman. He was laying on the ground covered in lime and foam rubber.

Yucatan police became involved in the now-murder investigation, which lead both them and Quintana Roo police to arrest five people believed involved. The five suspects were taken into police custody in SM 321 of Cancun.

Those arrested have been identified as 18-year-old Marco Antonio P.B. and his 20-year-old sister Diana Laura P.B., both of whom, lived in Cancun. Another youth, 20-year-old Gregorio Jesús M.L. originally from Tizimín, along with 23-year-old Manuel Alberto P.M. and 39-year-old Yiruba Merari ML, the mother of three, both also living in Cancun, were arrested.
