Five arrested, one officer injured after criminals attack Cancun police

Cancun, Q.R. — An early morning attack on Cancun police has left five arrested and one officer wounded.

Early reports say that members of the Cancun police force have taken five people into custody after a gunfire attack that ended in Region 253 left one municipal officer injured. The arrests were the result of an alleged criminal group attacking a police patrol unit in Region 219 then attempting to escape.

Police pursued the group of men into Region 253 where they were finally arrested near Avenue Leona Vicario, but not before an exchange of gunfire and the burning of one vehicle. Police were performing a routine surveillance tour in 219 when the attack occurred.

During the pursuit, one of the cars involved crashed into a Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) pole, which caused an electrical blackout and the vehicle to catch fire and burn.
