Five arrested in Playa del Carmen after reported walking streets armed

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Five subjects have been taken into custody in downtown Playa del Carmen after police found them carrying weapons.

Emergency 911 received a call at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday that a group of men were walking the streets of 34th Street and 5th Avenue carrying weapons. When police tended to the call, they saw the five who attempted to escape police presence by running to a waiting taxi.

Members of the Municipal Tourist Police found themselves chasing the group who ran toward 10 Avenue with 34th street where they saw a waiting taxi, however, police were able to prevent the taxi from leaving.

After a security review, one of the men said he was a seller of tours in the area. On him, they found a revolver. The Lázaro Cárdenas del Río taxi driver from number 2690, was also questioned. Inside his car, police found a black pistol.

All five were arrested and placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities of public security for criminal proceedings.
