Fisherman found drowned off Cozumel

Cozumel, Q.R. — A man has presumed to have drowned after being found off the boardwalk of Cozumel.

The deceased male was seen floating in the water by Aqua Safari service providers on Sunday. They reported the incident to emergency 911 who sent an ambulance. By the time public safety arrived, the body had already been pulled onto the sand.

Paramedics pronounced the man, who has been identified as 45-year-old Wilberth N., a local Cozumel fisherman.

Commander of the Ministerial Police, Néstor Segundo Pérez, said police reported finding eight beer cans near where the body was discovered. Police said the body showed no signs of violence, so his death is being treated as a drowning.

Forensic Medical Service arrived to remove the body which was taken to facilities for an official autopsy.
