First Wax Museum opens in Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. – The city’s first ever wax museum opened its doors on January 20 showcasing its more than 100 wax characters.

The museum hosts over 100 different figures from politicians to athletes and artists to musicians and celebrities.

Allan Bertoldi, general manager of Cancun Wax Museum, says there are 23 themed rooms that make up the museum. Themes include children characters as well as superheros, pirates, the old west and horror and that each is accompanied by its own sound enhancements, 13 in all throughout the museum.

The 700-square meter Cancun Wax Museum is located in Plaza La Isla in the Cancun Hotel Zone where there is a natural audience of international tourists. Bertoldi says it takes the average visitor about 2.5 hours to walk through the entire museum, but can take longer as people enjoy photos with the displayed characters.

Popular characters include Harry Potter and Star Wars as well as politicians such as US President Barack Obama, Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, Gandhi, Winston Churchill, Putin and the Dalai Lama. Emblematic figures include Mexican Frida Kahlo, Pedro Infante, Cantinflas, El Chicharito Hernandez and El Santo.

The wax museum is a project by Brazilian company, Dreams Entertainment, with an investment of $3 US million.
