First New Year weekend car crash in Cancun claims life of teen

Cancun, Q.R. — The first weekend of the New Year has claimed the life of a young teen in Cancun after a vehicle he was in crashed.

The accident, which is being blamed on excessive speed, happened Friday night when a car carrying three overturned.

Preliminary reports say that the vehicle collided with a lamp post before overturning around 7:50 p.m. in the Andalucía subdivision of SM 527 along Cancún Avenue.

According to transit agents, the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control. One passenger, a 19-year-old male, was killed while a second passenger, a 17-year-old male, was seriously injured.

The driver reportedly fled the scene.
