Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The first four intelligent traffic lights have been installed in the city of Playa del Carmen with more to follow says current mayor, Cristina Torres Gómez.
As one of her final projects before leaving office, Torres Gómez announced the installation of four of the city’s first intelligent traffic lights, which she says, will be connected to the C4 via surveillance cameras for vehicular traffic.
“These are the first smart traffic lights that Solidaridad will have, installed with the objective that citizens enjoy quality services and live in a first-class city, one that is visited by thousands of tourists,” she said.
The initial traffic lights have been placed at 115 Avenue with Solidaridad Avenue. The technology crosses CTM Avenue with Lilis Avenue, CTM Avenue with Loros Avenue and avenida Tecnológico with avenida Universidades and will be linked to the Communication, Computing, Control and Command Center (C4).
Torres Gómez explained that there is a plan to install surveillance cameras and 32 traffic lights that, once complete, will allow for traffic monitoring as well as controlled lights for emergency vehicles.
“The challenge is to continue with the installation of the smart traffic lights, leaving the base, the necessary infrastructure to expand this service in the city,” said Cristina Torres.
