Cancun, Q.R. — A fire at a vehicle scrap yard in Cancun kept firemen busy during the early afternoon hours as they tried to extinguish flames.
A fire that was reported at 3:20 p.m. had firemen rush to the AAA Corralón auto yard in Cancun. The fire, which was large and widespread, required additional assistance from the Mexican Army.
More than 100,000 liters of water and 30 fighters were needed to smother the flames during the several hours it took personnel to put it out.
Once under control, on site fireman said that 74 vehicles had been destroyed, however, most were considered scrap. Civil Protection informed the vehicle owners of the fire and will head the investigation.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, however, there were reports that an electrical failure was the cause.
