Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The Federal Office of Environmental Protection has temporarily shut down work and activities for the construction of a stage they say is inside the Natural Protected Area (ANP) Arrecife National Park Puerto Morelos.
In a public statement, federal officers say they recently inspected a semi-fixed stage located on a beach within the Arrecife National Park of Puerto Morelos.
Inspectors noted that the construction affected the coastal dune ecosystem. At the time of the inspection, those responsible for constructing the stage were unable to prove they had the necessary environmental authorization to carry out the construction.
As a result, a temporary total closure of the construction and its activities was placed along the stage in order to prevent additional damage to the coastal ecosystems they found at the inspection site.
More than 1,800 square meters had already been affected.
