Cancun, Q.R. – A family outing turned tragic this week when two people were swept out to sea.
A family visiting Cancun from Mexico City went for an evening walk along the beach at kilometer 14.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone when two members of their party decided to go for a swim. Both were instantly swept from the shore by strong waves that pulled them out into the strong currents.
Emergency 066 was called at 7:45 p.m. by lifeguards with the report of two people being swept out to sea. Although on-duty lifeguards managed to rescue one of the swimmers, the second person died.
Emergency personnel searched the water for an hour before finding the lifeless body of the second victim who was a 26-year-old man from Mexico City. His 16-year-old companion was rescued.
