Expansion of Bahía de Chetumal Boulevard in the works

Chetumal, Q.R. — The Secretary of State Works says 12 studies are being conducted that will see the expansion of the Bahía de Chetumal Boulevard.

William Conrado, the Secretaría de Obras en el Estado, says the studies are being continued to establish the expansion of the Bahía de Chetumal Boulevard with an investment of 600 million peso. He says for the project, the state will not be hiring specialized offices, noting that the studies will be done with contribution from Universidad de Quintana Roo.

Conrado explained that part of the expansion project includes the development of four new artificial beaches, adding that the corresponding technical and environmental files are taking time because it is a large project.

He said that protective measures have to be taken into consideration for the marine life in the area where beaches of between three and six meters wide will be developed. He says they also need to take into consideration the distance for bringing in large amounts of sand from the dredging of the Zaragoza Canal or failing that, material located in the town of Calderitas.

He reported that speculation generated in social networks that imply a lack of budget are not true, saying that the project budget of 600 million will be maintained and included in the 2020 budget. First, he says, the project will have to pass the technical and environmental phases.
