Ex-Manitoba chief-of-staff paid six figure severance

Liam Martin, who left caucus after a revolt, has been given a six-figure severance package after less than three years on the job.

Documents obtained by the Opposition Progressive Conservatives show Premier Greg Selinger’s former chief-of-staff, Liam Martin, received more than $146,000 last November when he left his political post.

Since then, Selinger has hired a new chief-of-staff as well as two new advisers.

The last time a chief-of-staff was given a six-figure severance package was in 2012. Apparently, one year’s salary is the standard severance amount.

Kelvin Goertzen, Tory house leader, said he believes that the premier is using tax payer dollars to ward off an internal NDP battle.
