Mahauhal, Q.R. — The Office of the Attorney General of the State of Quintana Roo reports that it has initiated an investigation for crimes against the environment in a mangrove and wetland area located at kilometer 1.8 of avenida Malecón of Mahahual.
The Public Ministry of Attention to Environmental Crimes ordered the start of the corresponding investigation and instructed the intervention of the Investigative Police and experts after discovering approximately 6,000 square meters of land had been destroyed.
Experts from the FGE carried out an investigation and proceeded to collect evidence found on the property. The inspection also allowed the locating of divisions made with posts and wire and the filling of mangroves, which could be a cause of negative impact on the area environment. The FGE says the situation will be assessed and diagnosed by environmental authorities.
