Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An elderly man drowned at a central Playa del Carmen beach Thursday morning.
The man, who was a visitor to the area from Mexico City, was reported deceased by drowning in the early morning hours Thursday after he went swimming at a beach on Calle 38.
The 73-year-old man was with a family member on the beach when he decided to swim around 9:00 a.m. The family member said he experienced problems in the water, but by the time they got him out, it was too late.
Municipal police arrived to tape off the area and wait for medical personnel.
