Drunk man denied bar access calls emergency personnel claiming bomb in central Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man who was denied entry into a Playa del Carmen club decided to get even by claiming a bomb was in the area.

Due to his level of intoxication, a man was denied entry into La Chancla bar on 10th street and 10th avenue in central Playa del Carmen. Police soon began arriving in the area after Emergency 911 reported a caller claiming a bomb.

The call came through around 1:00 a.m. when 911 personnel reported an intoxicated-sounding male called claiming a bomb “is going to explode”, then hung up.

The male again called emergency services, repeating that there was a bomb that will explode when his people leave. Emergency personnel said the caller began to laugh and slur insults before hanging up for a second time.

Police went to the area to verify information with on-duty tourist police and the manager of the bar, who explained that shortly before they arrived, an aggressive man was denied entry into his bar.

The threat was discarded. Police began a search for the caller.
