Drunk British woman causes Cancun flight diversion

Cancun, Q.R. — A flight from Manchester to Cancun was diverted to Canada Sunday when one of the passengers became aggressive.

A 34-year-old British woman onboard the direct Manchester to Cancun flight Sunday became aggressive after drinking too much. The drunken woman was detained by Canadian police after an unscheduled landing when the aircraft’s pilot raised the alarm.

During the TUI flight, two other passengers helped to refrain the woman who was allegedly attacking crew and another passenger. The two other passengers helped to keep the British woman secure until the TUI flight landed at Quebec City, where she was handed over to Sûreté du Québec police.

A police spokesman said that the woman may face charges of “disturbing the peace, mischief and jeopardising the safety of an aircraft.”

A statement from Sûreté du Québec police department said, “Our major Crimes Division is investigating a case whereby the passenger of an international flight was causing a disturbance on board, forcing the pilot to land in Quebec City.

“The-34-year old woman was arrested and will appear in Québec Superior court Monday. She may be facing charges of disturbing the peace, mischief and jeopardizing the safety of an aircraft.

“During the flight this individual was under the influence of alcohol and involved in an altercation with another passenger as well as a flight crew member. However no one was injured during this incident.

“Canadian law prohibits us from revealing her identity until such time as she is formally charged with a crime.”

An airline spokesperson for TUI said that these types of onboard incidences are extremely rare and confirmed that later that day, the flight did safely arrive in Cancun.
