Dozens spend night in jail after failing breathalyzer test

Cancun, Q.R. – Random check stops along several popular Cancun throughways sees 36 people fail breathalyzer tests and end up in jail.

Police set up several check points Saturday night and Sunday morning along Tulum Avenue in Cancun. A total of 390 vehicles were stopped for a routine check. Of those pulled over, 87 were given breathalyzer tests of which 36 people failed. Of those that failed, 32 of them were men and four were women.

Drivers who failed the breath test were sent to jail for a minimum of 20 hours while their vehicles were confiscated.

The blood alcohol limit in the state of Quintana Roo is 0.04.
